Hillary’s presidential bid inspired by Jayalalithaa: MLA

‘If a woman can enter the fray for U.S. presidential elections, it is because of Amma’

AIADMK legislators, including ministers, attribute all great achievements and breakthroughs in the State and the country to their leader and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

But party MLA A. Ramu, representing Coonoor, outdid everyone on Tuesday when he said the credit for Hillary Clinton’s emergence as the Democratic Party nominee of the US presidential polls should go to Amma (Jayalalithaa).

“If a woman can enter the fray for the U.S. presidential elections, it is because of Amma ,” he said, drawing applause from the treasury benches. According to Mr. Ramu, a “turning point” happened in the career of Ms. Clinton and she became a presidential candidate only after she met Ms. Jayalalithaa in 2011. “The meeting between the two was praised as a historic event by the entire world. Ms. Clinton not only understood Amma ’s administrative skills but was also mesmerised by her English knowledge,” he said.

The AIADMK MLA said Ms. Clinton drew inspiration from the encouraging words of Ms. Jayalalithaa and returned to her country with boundless joy. “Today, her name is inscribed in golden letters as presidential nominee. It happened because of Amma and I want to record the same in the Assembly,” he said.
